Clinical Instructor, Respiratory Care

About the role

Clinical Instructors supervise and evaluate clinical lab and patient-care experiences assigned by the Director of Clinical Education.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills of students.
• Direct students to clinical situations that provide opportunities to meet goals, increase skills, and pass competency evaluations.
• Supervise student skill practice and clinical patient care; ensure accurate and safe performance; correct and remediate as needed.
• Maintain a safe practice environment.
• Complete assigned competency rating forms and review with students.
• Utilize evidence-based principles of current respiratory practice for clinical experiences.
• Adhere to professional standards and legal guidelines of practice.
• Consult with the Director of Clinical Education regarding observed student behavior, attitude, or skills that are unacceptable (e.g., content or skill weakness, counter-productive behavior, lack of technical competence).
• Serve as a role model demonstrating responsible and professional Respiratory Therapist behavior.
• Attend scheduled department staff meetings.
• Participate in on-going training to ensure inter-rater reliability.
• Document student progress and competency using Trajecsys® Clinical Management Tracking software; maintain privacy of all passwords and student information.
• Participate in semester-end clinical and laboratory proficiency testing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate in Science degree in Respiratory Care or an Associate’s degree with the general education requirements needed to become a Respiratory Therapist.
• Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and current active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license as required by the state of New Jersey.
• Minimum of three years of clinical respiratory experience.
• Teaching experience preferred.
• Member of AARC is a plus.

Skills

• Competent in personal computer applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email.
• AHA Certified in BLS for Healthcare Professionals.
• Competence in clinical skills in areas of teaching.
• Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills.
• Ability to delegate and manage small groups.
• Strong critical thinking skills.
• Clinical and/or instructional experience in specific respiratory fields (e.g., Pediatrics).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Duties are normally performed in a medical facility, acute care hospital, or other healthcare setting based on scheduled activities/competencies.
• Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods in a clinical patient care setting.
• Some travel required.
• Flexible schedule to meet department needs, including evenings, weekends, and extended hours.
• Travel to campus and clinical affiliates outside of traditional weekday work schedules may be required.

Pay

$50.00 per hour

Schedule

• Part-time, not to exceed 25 hours per week.
• Must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
• Must be an employee of one of our affiliate healthcare systems.
