Clinical Data Scientist, Assistant/Associate Professor, Biomedical Informatics (Tenure-Track)
Location: Stony Brook, New York. Open Date: Aug 28, 2026. Deadline: Nov 28, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
About the role
The Department of Biomedical Informatics at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank with a focus on Clinical Data Science. We seek an outstanding scientist, physician-scientist, or clinically oriented informatics scholar committed to advancing the field of clinical data science and improving human health through innovative research, translation and education. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program that leverages real-world clinical data, data science, and artificial intelligence to drive biomedical discovery, improve clinical care, and support data-informed decision‑making. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, advanced electronic health record‑based phenotyping and predictive modeling; machine learning; foundation models and generative AI for clinical and biomedical applications; real‑world evidence generation and causal inference; clinical decision support; clinical natural language processing; trustworthy, interpretable, and responsible AI; implementation and evaluation of informatics interventions; and analytic methods that support clinical, translational, operational, and population health decision‑making. This position is intended to strengthen the Department's research portfolio in clinical data science while advancing translational clinical informatics through methods, tools, and studies that can be evaluated, piloted, and deployed in real‑world research and clinical environments. The successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate across Stony Brook Medicine, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and other University units to develop high‑impact research programs that bridge methodological innovation with clinical and translational needs. The faculty member will also contribute to graduate teaching, mentor students and trainees, and provide services to the Department, School, University, and broader professional community.
