About the Role

The Clinical Counselor (CC) works in Mental Health Services at Centinela State Prison (CEN) in Centinela, CA, applying counseling interventions and psychotherapeutic techniques to improve incarcerated individuals' mental health. The role focuses on preventative care, including outreach and wellness strategies for the incarcerated population, even those not currently in the mental health delivery system.

Responsibilities

• Apply counseling interventions and psychotherapeutic techniques within the scope of applicable Business and Professions Code(s) and license.
• Improve incarcerated individuals' mental health and the effectiveness of preventative skills and behaviors for wellness.
• Provide preventative mental health services, including access, outreach, and wellness strategies for the incarcerated population.

Schedule

This is a part-time position working 20 hours per week.

Pay

The monthly part-time salary range for this position is $3,647.00 to $5,189.00. Effective July 1, 2025, salaries are subject to a 3% reduction under the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025), with employees receiving 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Part-time employees are subject to these conditions on a prorated basis.

Eligible employees may receive a $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend after six months of employment, as well as a monthly recruitment and retention differential during their first year (totaling $20,000). CDCR/CCHCS employees may also qualify for a $5,000 referral bonus if the selected candidate remains employed for 90 days.
