Clinical Coordinator RN - Oncology

About the Role

Provides operational shift oversight, delegates care to staff, and facilitates timely patient admission, transfer, and discharge. Offers ongoing leadership, support, and guidance to all staff while promoting and restoring patients' health through the nursing process in collaboration with healthcare team members. Uses a systematic critical-thinking approach to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, addressing actual and potential health problems. All responsibilities align with the mission, vision, and standards of Lexington Medical Center (LMC), American Nurses Association Standards, and the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act.

Responsibilities

• Establishes positive rapport with patients and families, promoting independence by setting care goals and providing education on conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
• Serves as a patient/family advocate and maintains continuity among nursing teams through accurate, timely documentation and communication.
• Uses a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention, and evaluation of human responses to health problems.
• Identifies, synthesizes, and interprets clinical data to respond to dynamic situations effectively.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and uses ethical decision-making processes to advocate for acceptable patient outcomes.
• Ensures quality care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes, and recommending adjustments as needed.
• Resolves patient problems using multidisciplinary team strategies and participates in performance improvement activities.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and infection-control protocols.
• Documents all patient care activities accurately and provides safe, appropriate care and support to patients and families.
• Holds team members accountable for standards of care, policy compliance, and bedside reporting.
• Serves as a teacher, coach, and mentor to staff and contributes to the development and revision of unit standards.
• Demonstrates effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
• Leads process/performance improvement initiatives using evidence-based practice to enhance quality and safety.
• Fosters interdisciplinary communication and collaboration, supporting shared governance through committee participation.
• Collaborates with instructors from affiliating agencies to ensure continuity of care and positive learning experiences for students.
• Provides feedback on unit operations and employee performance to the Nurse Manager.
• Serves as a resource and role model for patient care and professionalism.
• Coordinates timely patient throughput (admissions, discharges, transfers) and facilitates smooth transitions of care.
• Negotiates for nursing resources to meet patient care needs and ensures assignments are based on acuity and skill level.
• Ensures proper operation and maintenance of equipment, including troubleshooting and evaluating new techniques.
• Utilizes nursing supplies and equipment appropriately and maintains professional knowledge through continuing education.
• Earns a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education annually within specialty and maintains required certifications.
• For Labor & Delivery: Completes competency and orientation to perform medical screening exams (EMTALA) independently.
• Ensures proper disposal and management of hazardous waste and pharmaceuticals, completing initial and annual RCRA training.

Requirements

• Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in the specialty area within the past 5 years.
• Consideration may be given to those with an ADN or Diploma in Nursing enrolled in an RN-to-BSN or RN-to-MSN program, with the degree to be completed within 12 months of hire.
• National nursing certification in specialty required at hire or within 6 months of promotion into the role.
• Current RN license to practice in the State of South Carolina.
• Refer to Mandatory Certification Requirements for additional education/certification in various nursing specialties.
