Responsibilities

  • Assist Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants with front and back office duties in outpatient management on a rotating basis.
  • Perform a variety of clerical and clinical functions, acting as a patient advocate with continuous contact with providers, patients, families, community agencies, and staff.
  • Perform and/or assist with clinical procedures consistent with training and licensure under provider supervision in exam suites.
  • Greet and welcome patients, escort them to exam suites, and complete registration or assist with online registration.
  • Escort patients to check-out, assist with patient satisfaction surveys, and obtain reviews of systems, history, and vital signs (weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature).
  • Provide patient convenience items (water, coffee, tea, warm blankets) to ensure comfort in exam suites or lobby.
  • Follow symptom-initiated protocols for clinic operations and perform labs as ordered or instructed.
  • Administer Aidarex prescriptions as directed by the provider, if offered by the clinic.
  • Review after-visit summaries and provide patient instructions as directed by the provider.
  • Conduct mandatory follow-up calls to patients 48-72 hours post-visit and report results professionally and courteously.
  • Maintain stocked exam rooms with adequate medical supplies, sterilize instruments, and manage logs for refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, and oxygen checks.
  • Take, relay, and process messages from patients, providers, and pharmacies consistent with training and licensure.
  • Adhere to UPC and department policies, procedures, and objectives, including CLIA, OSHA, Safety, and Risk Management guidelines.
  • Monitor environmental conditions to secure protected health information and maintain compliance with HIPAA and Corporate Compliance policies.
  • Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by exceeding customer expectations.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Clinic Manager to facilitate smooth and effective office operations.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants or completion of an accredited EMT course.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant may substitute for graduation from a non-accredited program.
  • Graduation from a registered Apprenticeship may also substitute for minimum requirements.
  • Graduate of an accredited program for RN/LPN license with an associate’s degree preferred.
  • Completed Nationally Accredited Paramedic Program at the Certificate or Associate Degree Level preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a Family Practice setting, Urgent Care, or related field preferred.

  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through one of the following:
    • National Healthcareer Association
    • American Association of Medical Assistants
    • National Center for Competency Testing
    • National Certified Medical Assistant
    • National Association of Health Professionals
    • American Registry of Medical Assistants
    • American Allied Health
    • American Medical Technologists
  • Certified Medical Administrative Assistant through the National Healthcareer Association.
  • Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • IA/IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training required within 90 days of hire in applicable states.
  • IA/IL Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training required within 90 days of hire in applicable states.

Schedule

3 hours per week / 12 hours per month.
