About the role

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care to join our team of 2 DACVECCs and 4 emergency faculty. The position is a Clinical Track appointment with the academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor level.

Responsibilities

  • Participation in the teaching, service, and scholarly missions of the College.
  • Teaching of veterinary students in emergency and critical care medicine.
  • Supervision and training of veterinary students and rotating interns in the emergency & critical care rotation.
  • Supervision and training of ECC residents once the residency commences.
  • Oversight of triage and case management of emergency and ICU patients.
  • Consultation with clients and referring veterinarians seeking critical care for their animals.
  • Primary management of emergency and intensive care unit patients.
  • Research responsibilities, varying based on interest and qualifications.

Requirements

  • DVM or equivalent foreign degree by the date of hire.
  • Completion of an ACVECC or ECVECC residency program by the date of hire.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal interactions.
  • Eligibility for a Virginia faculty veterinary license by the date of hire.

  • Diplomate status in the ACVECC or ECVECC is preferred.
  • Advanced clinical experience.
  • Experience in teaching.
  • Leadership record.
  • Previous scholarly activity.
