UCI Health — Los Alamitos is a trusted full-service medical facility that has been part of the community for more than 50 years. We offer a wide range of services including 24-hour emergency care, cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, women's health and senior health. As a DNV-GL designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, we provide advanced stroke care when it matters most. Our dedicated outpatient pavilion supports imaging, infusion and radiation oncology services. We also offer specialized wound care services, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, to help treat complex and slow-healing wounds.

About the Role

The University of California, Irvine is seeking qualified candidates for a Clinical Associate Physician-Hospitalist position for clinic coverage. Duties will include clinical service primarily at the UCI site in Los Alamitos. The successful candidate must be board eligible/certified in Hospital Medicine or Internal Medicine, and licensed/eligible in California.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and ensure patient care coverage for Medicine services
  • Conduct face-to-face rounds with the care team
  • Supervise residents in MICU, CCU, and ward services
  • Evaluate new admissions to cardiac and medical ICUs
  • Monitor patient stability and triage cases
  • Oversee consultations and collaborate with specialists
  • Participate in family meetings and patient care discussions
  • Review summaries of new admissions from admitting residents
  • Ensure timely completion of patient notes within 72 hours
  • Maintain compliance with medical record standards and institutional policies
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety and quality in patient care
  • Supervise and mentor trainees, including residents and fellows
  • Serve as an educator for students, residents, and fellows
  • Complete trainee evaluations promptly
  • Model professionalism and patient-centered care
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Complete computer-based training and timesheets on schedule
  • Support development of clinical protocols and care delivery optimization
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement to improve patient outcomes
  • Leadership skills: ability to motivate, inspire, communicate with faculty, residents, staff, and peers to maintain a professional, team-based approach in the care of patients
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and objectives while in compliance with all UC policies and procedures
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all state and federal privacy laws

Requirements

  • M.D. /D.O. or equivalent degree
  • Board-certified or eligible in the field of Hospital Medicine or Internal Medicine
  • Eligible for California licensure
  • Experienced in providing and/or oversight of care

Pay

Benefits eligible base salary compensation based on $328,025 benchmarks for a Clinical Associate Physician within this specialty. Total compensation is $311,000-$390,000. In addition, candidates have the potential to earn incentives on top of their base salary contingent on performance and experience.
