Clinical Assistant or Instructor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences (Clinician Educator)

Purpose, Scope, and Duties

This position is a hybrid role that combines the responsibilities of a CMH Crisis Team clinician/therapist and a case manager. Clinicians provide specialized psychotherapy and case management services to students who meet high-risk criteria, including individual treatment, group therapy, intake assessments, triage, case consultation, and coordination with third parties. They conduct student welfare checks in collaboration with the USC Department of Public Safety and work closely with USC Student Health Care Coordinators, service providers, and community agencies to ensure students are connected to appropriate resources and services.

Responsibilities

• Interviewing clients and collateral contacts to assess needs
• Recommending and monitoring treatment plans
• Evaluating treatment progress
• Preparing and maintaining confidential case records
• Providing consultation on complex cases
• Supervising interns and practicum students
• Presenting didactic training seminars on clinical theories, interventions, and diagnoses
• Delivering psychoeducational workshops to USC faculty, staff, and students

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s or higher degree in social work, marriage & family therapy, counseling, psychology, or related field
• Licensed in the state of California
• Experience in dealing with students/clients at risk or in crisis
• Experience providing case management services
• Expertise in short term treatment, including brief psychotherapy, stabilization and referral of serious mental illness, and crisis
• Resilient, self-aware, and can thrive in a fast paced, demanding environment

• Multicultural competency in working with students of color, students from all economic classes, first generation students, LGBTQ students, and international students
• Commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice and to professional integrity

Preferred Qualifications

• Work experience in a college counseling center or similar
• LPS designation
• Excellent diagnostic skills
• Experience working with issues encountered in late adolescence, including: gender identity, sexual trauma, eating disorders, and substance use disorders
• Bilingual or multilingual; foreign language skills are a plus but not required

• This is a full-time clinical faculty position with an academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and clinical service assignment in Counseling and Mental Health as a Case Manager and High-Risk Team therapist.

• The annual base salary range for this position is $90,200 - $135,600 with additional compensation provided in recognition of the after-hours coverage demands of the role.
