About the role
The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Clinical Support Specialist to provide clinical and administrative support to physicians/surgeons. This position serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, families, healthcare providers, nursing homes, homecare providers, patient employers, and insurance companies to ensure quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, families, healthcare providers, nursing homes, homecare providers, patient employers, and insurance companies to ensure quality patient care.
- Captures and organizes patient flow, assists with patient care tasks, and coordinates daily activities of the physician team staff.
- Completes clerical tasks such as sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, and completing forms and requisitions.
- Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician.
- Inventories, orders, or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and in compliance with legal regulations.
- Performs proficient phlebotomy duties as needed.
- Schedules surgeries/procedures or works with the Surgical Coordinator to verify times with patients; prepares charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms as necessary.
- Updates patient demographic and insurance information.
- Trains and mentors Level I MA staff.
- Directs and assigns MA schedules and work flow to meet the needs of the practice and applicable to patient volumes.
- Maintains the medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms), updates patient office schedule, and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant; 5 years of experience preferred.
- BLS Certification Issuing Authority: American Heart Association.
