Clinical Assistant I - Gastroenterology
About the role
The Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, along with the Scully Endoscopy Center, diagnoses and treats patients with digestive problems and conditions. As a Clinical Assistant on the team, you will assist LPNs, RNs, and other healthcare staff in providing exceptional patient support and attention.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care to patients as appropriate.
- Provide accurate medication administration and nursing documentation such as medical records, authorization forms, and laboratory requisitions.
- Implement pain management assessments and documentation.
- Navigate changes in patient status and report pertinent information to Charge Nurse or Physicians.
- Recognize and follow through with nursing intervention.
- Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation and files at all times.
- Perform patient teaching as needed under the supervision of RN/Physician.
- Adhere to the National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by JCAHO.
- Follow Code Blue protocol as per clinic policy.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Program
- Current Florida licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Knowledge of Infection Control Practices
- Computer literacy

Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking, sitting, and standing.
- Frequent talking and listening when giving instruction and explanations.
- Frequent use of the phone; fax machines, and occasional use of the computer.
- Heavy, constant lifting and moving patients, carrying equipment, supplies, and material up to 50 pounds without help and over 50 pounds with the help of mechanical devices or other personnel.
- Stooping, pushing, and pulling when moving patient into position for treatment; also reaching, handling, feeling, and manipulating equipment into position.
- Majority of the time indoors in air-conditioned areas.
- Potential for exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens.
- Clinical exposure to patients requires the use of personal protective equipment.
