Employees in this classification provide patient care management to an assigned clinic, performing both clerical and clinical duties. In the clinical setting, supervision is received directly from a physician or nursing supervisor, either orally or in writing. In the office setting, supervision is provided by the department administrator. Work is performed under typical office and clinic conditions, though it may become stressful during emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Schedules patients for appointments and enters sick call requests (SCRS) into the appropriate systems while monitoring access to care standards.
- Ensures protected health information (PHI) is scanned into the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Assists in processing patients through the patient management system (PTM).
- Schedules and completes paperwork for record reviews.
- Copies records for authorized recipients, including the patient liaison and attorney general.
- Attends unit/departmental meetings and serves as a courier to support operations.
- Provides clinical support, including phlebotomy duties, and reports abnormal findings or processing errors to the charge nurse.
- Ensures proper collection and preparation of specimens.
- Checks and maintains lab equipment, including temperature logs.
- Serves as a Telehealth Presenter as needed.
Requirements
- A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the required specialty.
- Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty relevant to the role.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 6 months of experience working within a Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) correctional facility.
- Prior experience in Correctional Facility Medical Records.
- Current Phlebotomy certification.
