Scope of Responsibilities
- Aids physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment
- Promotes efficient patient flow and care, including exams and procedures
- Performs clinic support tasks such as answering phones, maintaining schedules, and recording patient data
- Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program
- Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms
- Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed
- Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested
- Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician
- Maintains exam/treatment room disinfection protocols
- Answers patient telephone calls for referrals to physician or nurse/pharmacist
- Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN
- Informs physicians of patient reschedules and no-shows
- Performs other administrative duties as requested by supervisor or physician
Qualifications
- Medical Assistant - Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Current CPR Certification
- Preferred: Certified MA or Registered MA (willing to obtain certification/registration within 6 months of hire)
- 2-3 years of experience preferred, oncology experience helpful
- Current CPR Certification
- 2-3 years of experience preferred, oncology experience helpful
- One of the following is required:
- Diploma or equivalent from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with 1 year direct care experience
Physical Demands
- Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
- Manual and finger dexterity
- Eye-hand coordination
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 lbs occasionally
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
Work Environment
- Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment
