Scope of Responsibilities

  • Aids physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment
  • Promotes efficient patient flow and care, including exams and procedures
  • Performs clinic support tasks such as answering phones, maintaining schedules, and recording patient data
  • Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program
  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested
  • Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician
  • Maintains exam/treatment room disinfection protocols
  • Answers patient telephone calls for referrals to physician or nurse/pharmacist
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN
  • Informs physicians of patient reschedules and no-shows
  • Performs other administrative duties as requested by supervisor or physician

Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant - Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Preferred: Certified MA or Registered MA (willing to obtain certification/registration within 6 months of hire)
  • 2-3 years of experience preferred, oncology experience helpful
  • Current CPR Certification
  • 2-3 years of experience preferred, oncology experience helpful
  • One of the following is required:
  • Diploma or equivalent from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with 1 year direct care experience

Physical Demands

  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
  • Manual and finger dexterity
  • Eye-hand coordination
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 lbs occasionally
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range

Work Environment

  • Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment
