Clinical Assessment Specialist - (RN, PT, OT, SLP)

About the role

The Clinical Assessment Specialist is a critical member of our hospital business development team, responsible for facilitating quick admissions to our acute inpatient rehabilitation hospitals so patients can receive the care and services they need. This role assists field clinical liaisons with patient assessment completion and pull-through, offering a unique opportunity to impact patient care from the business side of healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Admission Department and/or acute care hospital personnel to secure insurance authorization and/or coordination of benefits necessary for admission.
• Develop professional relationships with insurance case managers as appropriate.
• Assess a patient’s eligibility for and feasibility of rehabilitation services in consultation with field Clinical Liaisons, Senior Clinical Liaison, or Director of Business Development.
• Review and analyze medical records and history to determine suitability for rehabilitative services.
• Prepare and complete a detailed preadmission assessment timely and thoroughly, meeting all regulatory requirements. Documentation will reflect critical thinking and rationale for admission, including medical necessity and projected rehabilitation needs.
• Participate in meetings with hospital leadership, DBD, and clinical liaisons to provide market intelligence and share strategies and results.
• Support team members in the field or in the admissions office as needed.
• Assist with insurance authorization backup as required.
• Obtain timely authorization for all patients requiring pre-certification and ensure accountability for conversion percentage and results.
• Ensure compliance with all policies governing commercial pre-certification and authorization to minimize financial risk.
• Maintain relationship profiles by payor for payor case managers and medical directors.
• Identify payor preferences or use best practice coversheets and submission portfolios to maximize results.
• Develop and maintain professional credibility, gaining mutual respect and building confidence with leadership and teammates.
• Perform other related projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Current and valid state licensure or eligibility for state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), or Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). Multi-state licensure required based on geographical territory.
• Two years of related experience working in a clinical healthcare setting.
• Demonstrated competency with the preadmission process, including assessments, transitions of care communication, and patient pull-through.
• Previous experience in a rehabilitation setting or another post-acute care setting preferred.
• Demonstrated computer proficiency.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in handling professional and confidential healthcare information.

Pay

Base salary between $78,000 - $116,000 per year.
