Clinical Applications Educator
Position Summary
The Clinical Applications Educator is responsible for onboarding, orientation, and ongoing education of clinical staff related to electronic medical record (EMR) systems and clinical applications. This role ensures staff are competent, confident, and compliant in documentation and system use by translating clinical workflows, regulatory requirements, and system functionality into practical, role-based education. This position serves as a key liaison between Education, Quality, and Information Technology to support EMR implementation, optimization, adoption and ongoing updates/upgrades.
Duties And Responsibilities
Onboarding and Orientation (Primary Focus)
- Lead EMR and clinical application training during new employee orientation for all clinical disciplines
- Integrate documentation standards, regulatory expectations, and workflow education into onboarding programs
- Partner with Education leadership to ensure onboarding content aligns with current policies, processes, and system workflows
- Support onboarding competency validation related to clinical documentation and system use
- Manage and respond to IT service tickets related to the EMR and clinical applications, including triage, end-user support, and coordination with Information Technology for resolution
Clinical Application Education and Training
- Create and update job aids, quick references, tip sheets, and instructional materials to support end users
- Develop, deliver, and maintain role-specific training for EMR and clinical applications across disciplines
- Provide ongoing education related to system updates, workflow changes, and regulatory documentation expectations
- Serve as a resource for clinical staff regarding documentation practices, workflows, and system functionality
- Reinforce standardized documentation practices that support quality outcomes and regulatory compliance
EMR Optimization and Ongoing User Education Support
- Support EMR implementations, upgrades, and system changes through training, workflow education, at-the-elbow support, and troubleshooting, including real-time support during go-live events to promote adoption and minimize disruption
- Assist with workflow validation, user acceptance testing, and feedback collection from clinical staff
- Collaborate with IT and Quality to ensure workflows are functional, efficient, and aligned with regulatory requirements
Collaboration with Quality and IT
- Partner with the Quality Department to reinforce documentation standards, regulatory requirements, and audit findings through education
- Collaborate with IT to understand system functionality, updates, and limitations to translate into practical training
- Communicate workflow challenges, training gaps, and system issues to appropriate departments for resolution
- Support initiatives related to quality improvement, compliance, and documentation accuracy
Workflow and Documentation Support
- Assist in evaluating clinical workflows and identifying opportunities for improvement in documentation practices
- Support standardization of workflows across teams through consistent education and training
- Reinforce best practices that align with hospice regulations, Conditions of Participation, and organizational policies
Project and Program Support
- Assist with planning and coordination of training related to EMR initiatives and organizational projects
- Maintain documentation of training activities, attendance, and competency validation as required
- Participate in interdisciplinary committees or workgroups related to EMR, education, and quality initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and organizational goals
