About the role

The Clinical Aide provides first aid and care for ill or injured students under the supervision of the School Nurse. They also support the School Nurse by conducting vision and hearing screenings, monitoring immunization records, and performing other delegated nursing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Administers first aid and renders CPR in life-threatening emergencies
  • Care for students with prescribed medications and perform delegated nursing procedures
  • Supports the School Nurse by conducting vision and hearing screenings, monitoring immunization records, and referring students to the School Nurse
  • Maintains student health records and performs general clerical duties
  • Performs periodic maintenance checks on the school's Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Sanitizes health office cots and keeps the health office clean and organized
  • Communicates changes in student health status to the School Nurse, school authorities, parents/guardians, and performs related work as assigned

Requirements

  • Possession of or ability to obtain within 30 days a current Heartsaver + AED CPR card from the American Heart Association
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within 30 days, a Standard First Aid card from American Heart Association or Red Cross
  • Knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, basic first aid and emergency procedures, current office procedures, basic computer software and data-entry skills, files and records management, and telephone etiquette

Qualifications

  • Education and experience: Any related experience that would demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the necessary duties
  • Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain within 30 days a current Heartsaver + AED CPR card from the American Heart Association; possession of, or ability to obtain within 30 days, a Standard First Aid card from American Heart Association or Red Cross

  • Preparing and maintaining accurate and complete records, files and reports
  • Dealing tactfully with students, parents, and school personnel on health issues
  • Applying specific laws, rules and office policies and procedures

  • Working quickly and effectively in stressful and emergency situations
  • Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
