Clinical Adjunct for Practical Nursing

General Description

Northern Virginia Community College is seeking qualified and interested Adjunct Clinical Instructors in one or more of the following areas: Basic Skills, Med-Surg Nursing, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and/or Mental Health Nursing for evenings & weekends. Applications will be received and considered on a continuous basis, as openings occur. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the positions needed are filled and/or the closing date of our announcement.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and evaluate the students' performance of skills and other nursing activities to ensure safe practice.
  • Collaborate with full-time nursing faculty to review student progress in meeting clinical objectives.
  • Provide direct feedback to the students regarding clinical performance.
  • Engage and motivate adult learners, ensuring a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere.
  • Serve as a role model and advocate for student success.
  • Maintain accurate student participation and performance records.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement and enhance curriculum.
  • Respond in a timely manner to student and faculty inquiries.
  • Report incidents.
  • Engage in professional development activities and clinical facility onboarding requirements.
  • Maintain current professional competence, certifications, and licensure.
  • Hold one office hour a week while teaching.
  • Participate in the pinning ceremony.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Valid license, without restrictions, to practice nursing in Virginia (Current unencumbered Virginia licensure as a Registered Nurse).
  • At least two (2) years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct care prior to employment by the college.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Outlook) and ability to utilize current classroom technology.
  • Must have the ability to provide student instruction in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Annual submission of professional development, CEU's and competence required.
  • Must reside in the (DC, VA, MD) DMV area.

Additional Considerations

  • Master's degree or higher in Nursing.
  • Experience teaching in an Associate degree or Practical Nursing program.
  • Experience teaching in a community college setting.

Work Schedule

Varies according to class schedules. Daytime, Evening, and Weekend options are available. Instruction will include a mix of didactic, online, skills labs, and clinical instruction. Travel to clinical sites within our service region is required.

Pay

$63 per hour
