About the role

The Clinical Account Specialist (CAS) is a field-based role responsible for supporting the launch and ongoing growth of Ionis’s first wholly owned commercial product within their territory as its indication expands from Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (FCS) to severe hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG). The CAS will engage key customers and accounts, identify opportunities to improve patient care, and build strong partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem to drive performance and advance Ionis goals.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the unique objectives and needs of each customer to improve patient outcomes by building, maintaining, and leveraging networks and relationships in the local healthcare system.
  • Develop and execute effective business plans to meet customer and Ionis goals, collaborating with a diverse cross-functional team.
  • Customer Engagement and Experience:
    • Educate HCPs and office staff to raise sHTG disease state awareness, educate on diagnostic pathways, and prioritize treatment for appropriate sHTG patients.
    • Create a positive prescribing experience through value-added resources, support materials, and programs for HCPs and patients.
    • Participate in conferences, congresses, and scientific meetings to educate HCPs on sHTG disease state and treatment.
  • Market Knowledge:
    • Gather insights to profile accounts and provide feedback to field leadership and marketing to inform product sales and marketing strategy.
    • Understand local referral networks, including primary treaters, secondary treaters, and referral patterns for sHTG patients.
    • Identify, validate, and document potential HCPs treating sHTG patients to inform commercial strategy.
  • Account Planning:
    • Execute brand strategic plans by developing and implementing customer-focused territory strategic account plans to maximize business opportunities.
    • Build insight-driven tactics by understanding brand requirements and anticipating the needs of key customers, including hospital and office-based Endocrinologists, Cardiologists, and other sub-specialties, as well as targeted PCPs treating sHTG patients.
    • Adjust strategies to meet business goals in an assigned region through territory strategic insight.
    • Develop strategic account plans in conjunction with field and brand leadership to appropriately engage accounts based on customer needs and brand objectives.
  • Training:
    • Participate in field meetings and training programs to understand brand messaging strategy, sHTG disease state, and customer engagement tactics.
    • Certify on approved label, compliance training, and all applicable customer engagement policies.
    • Learn and adhere to the company’s mission, vision, policies, and procedures, including the Ionis Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.
  • Teamwork:
    • Partner with cross-functional teammates to address the unique needs of customers, ensuring the highest standards for customer and patient experience in a compliant manner.
    • Share learnings from customer engagement activities with field team members and leadership (e.g., national/regional leads, marketing, field ops, analytics).
    • Leverage available platforms and technology to compliantly engage customers through multiple channels and enhance their overall experience.
    • Partner on accounts with patients seen by multiple specialties in multiple geographies.

Requirements

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and driving record in compliance with company standards.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in Pharma sales with expertise in the following areas:
    • New product launches.
    • Account-based selling.
    • HCP and IDN engagement.
    • Cross-functional field team coordination.
    • Independent management of a sales territory.
  • Background in cardiology, endocrinology, or other sub-specialties treating FCS patients.
  • Injectable experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with treating cardiometabolic and lipid-related diseases such as severe hypertriglyceridemia (sHTG).
  • Established relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and major accounts.
  • Ability to analyze market data and develop territory strategies.
  • Record of navigating complex accounts and aligning solutions with patient needs.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and commitment to addressing patient needs.
