About the role

Apart from providing patient care in outpatient settings, the Clinic RN at MercyOne Richard Deming Cancer Center Des Moines Hematology Oncology is responsible for:

  • Delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Coordinating care provided by other clinical staff, supporting patient and family education, and ensuring communication across healthcare teams.
  • Making nursing decisions based on patient status and care needs.
  • Administering medications and treatments safely via multiple routes and documenting accordingly.
  • Assisting providers with patient care, phone/mail/fax communications, scheduling, consents, admissions, referrals, and outpatient procedures.
  • Communicating and collaborating with physicians, staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members regarding care plans and patient needs.
  • Educating patients, families, and clinical staff on treatments, medications, test preparation, discharge, and health maintenance; documenting education and evaluating understanding.
  • Participating in staff meetings, committees, quality improvement, risk management, and performance improvement projects.
  • Maintaining documentation accuracy and completeness in EMR: assessments, vitals, symptoms, treatments, medications, education, charges, lab results, histories, and consults.
  • Maintaining and monitoring supplies, equipment, medication stock, and office machines; following maintenance and quality control protocols; reporting malfunctions.
  • Recognizing and responding appropriately to urgent/emergency patient needs and initiating emergency procedures.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, candidates must:

  • Be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Have Active RN License in the state of Iowa; Licensure from other states may be required based on location.
  • Have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Have Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within 3 months of hire.
  • Be proficient in basic computer skills (Windows environment, web-based navigation, email, MS Office).
  • Have the ability to read, write, and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patient, visitors, and colleagues while performing their job duties.
  • Have Completion of specialty classes or proof of other certifications required for some roles.
  • Have a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

  • Comprehensive patient assessments (physical, psychosocial, nutritional, functional, safety, spiritual, cultural, educational).
  • Ability to make nursing decisions based on patient status and care needs.
  • Experience administering medications and treatments safely via multiple routes.
  • Collaborative and communicative skills with physicians, staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to educate patients, families, and clinical staff on treatments, medications, test preparation, discharge, and health maintenance.
  • Experience participating in staff meetings, committees, quality improvement, risk management, and performance improvement projects.
  • Ability to maintain documentation accuracy and completeness in EMR.
  • Experience maintaining and monitoring supplies, equipment, medication stock, and office machines.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergency patient needs and initiate emergency procedures.

The pay for this position is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is Full time, 40 hours a week M-F 8a-4:30p No Weekends, No Holidays.
