Clinic Oncology Nurse Navigator - Kennebunk

About the role

NECS is currently seeking a full-time Clinic Oncology Nurse Navigator in our Kennebunk location to help patients and families navigate the health care continuum. The Clinic Oncology Nurse Navigator will interact with patients, offer advice and counsel, and advise physicians of patient needs and recommended interventions.

Responsibilities

• Point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to assist with patient scheduling and coordination of care.
• Assist physicians; conduct patient assessments.
• Receive patient telephone calls and intervene appropriately for that patient's specific needs in a timely manner.
• Alert physician as needed to patient needs that require physician intervention.
• Follow up with patients as needed by telephone, to ensure compliance with treatment guidelines and to evaluate changing or uncertain clinical situations.
• Draw blood from ports, central lines, and peripheral IV access. Perform other procedures as needed.
• Maintain patient care standards and assure that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment, and documentation are completed safely and effectively.
• Maintain open and effective communication with all physicians, employees, and vendors.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, in-services, and continuing education programs, national and regional professional organizations, and community-sponsored programs specific to Oncology and Hematology.
• Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice and provide recommendations on practice clinical policies and processes to practice directors.
• Carefully coordinate patient care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed healthcare providers.
• Demonstrate respect for life, dignity, and rights of all persons.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
• Licensed Nurse within State of Maine required.
• ONS Chemotherapy & Bio-therapy Certification required or have the ability to get certification within one year of employment.
• Two years of Hematology/Chemotherapy/Oncology nursing experience preferred.
• Two to five years plus nursing professional experience required.
• Strong IV skills.
• Effective communication skills with patients, physicians, and staff.
• Detail-oriented, strong follow-up skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Qualifications

• Associated RN - Must be enrolled in a BSN program within 6 months of hire and complete your degree within 4 years of hire (tuition reimbursement available per company policy).
• Must have strong IV skills.
• Must have effective communication skills with patients, physicians, and staff.
• Must be detail-oriented, strong follow-up skills, and able to manage multiple priorities.
