Job Summary
Responsible for nursing care under the supervision of physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners.
Essential Functions
- Obtain, verify and record health history of patients.
- Gather pertinent health data through physical assessments.
- Room patients.
- Provide basic patient care as ordered by providers.
- Administer medications, which may include subcutaneous or intramuscular injections, and treatments as directed by physicians or physician assistants.
- Absorb and complete documentation in medical record.
- Assist providers in performing exams, procedures and treatments.
- Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines.
- Educate and instruct patients about self-administered medications.
- Promote wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
- Order, sort and store supplies and restock exam rooms.
- Answer telephone calls and messages from patients.
- Accurately relay prescription information to pharmacies.
- Fulfill clerical responsibilities as assigned.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.
- Check and resolve assigned tasks in EMR program.
- Assist co-workers as needed.
- Maintain emotional control and diplomacy at all times.
- Maintain open and positive lines of communication.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate sensible and efficient use of equipment and supplies by limiting waste, spoilage or damage.
Knowledge Performance Requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
- Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies and functions.
- Understanding of documentation standards.
- Knowledge of equipment, supplies and materials needed for medical treatment.
- Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
- Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
Skills
- Skill in reading and following written and oral medical orders.
- Skill in initiating appropriate emergency procedures.
- Skill in handling a number of tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in computers.
Qualifications
- Current LPN or RN license.
- AllScripts EMR experience preferred.
- Clinic experience preferred.
- Bilingual a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment.
- Physical ability to sit, perform data entry and view computer screen for long periods at a time.
- Daily standing, walking, bending, and maneuvering.
- May require lifting up to 50 pounds or more to transfer and/or turn patient with and without assistive devices.
Environmental Conditions
- Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
Travel Requirements
- Travel may be required.
Scheduled Working Hours
- Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays.
- Hours may vary depending upon the needs of the position, department, and clinic.
Equipment Operated
- Computer.
- Stethoscope.
- Echocardiography (EKG) machine.
- Automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Blood pressure cuff.
- Other nursing items.
- May involve use of walkers, wheelchairs, pulse oximetry and oxygen tanks.
