Clinic Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or Medical Lab Technician (MLT)
Summary
Collects, processes, and performs clinical laboratory testing on specimens from neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Is responsible for quality assurance and instrument maintenance. Reports to the Clinic Laboratory Supervisor.
Compensation
The hourly wage range for this position is MLS $32.45–$45.81; MLT $23.71–$33.47.
Key Accountabilities
- Collects blood specimens and evaluates the acceptability of both blood and non-blood specimens for laboratory testing.
- Accessions and processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing.
- Performs waived, routine and high complexity laboratory tests within all areas of the laboratory.
- Reports patient test results according to established laboratory policies.
- Performs quality control testing and instrument checks.
- Performs staff competency evaluations.
- Performs instrument preventative maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
- Performs clerical functions associated with each laboratory area.
- Practices Universal Body Substance Precautions.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Associate's degree Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program or Bachelor's degree program in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or Clinical Laboratory Science.
- Current MLT or MLS/MT certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire. Must enroll in the NH+C Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) program for BLS certification and complete all requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Certification must be maintained by completing quarterly RQI assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter.
- Obtain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently to ensure safe and effective communication in a healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of clinical blood banking, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, molecular biology, and microbiology.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to receive and carry out directions.
Schedule
- 64 hours per two-week pay period
- Monday–Friday: 8–12-hour shifts varying between 7:00am-8:00pm
- Weekends: 8:00am-4:30pm
- Locations: Northfield Clinic, Lakeville Clinic/Urgent Care, Farmington Clinic/Urgent Care, and Northfield Urgent Care
