Clinic Medical Director

About the role
We are looking for a passionate Clinic Medical Director (CMD) to join our team at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in SE/SW San Antonio, TX. As a Clinic Medical Director, you will oversee all clinical aspects of the CBOC, diagnose and treat diseases and injuries, and deliver preventive primary care, including chronic disease management.
Responsibilities
- Actively participate in and oversee the diagnoses and treatment of veterans.
- Manage day-to-day medical operations, ensuring high-quality clinical care and exceptional customer service.
- Achieve and maintain excellent clinical outcomes through periodic chart reviews, direct observation, and adherence to VA guidelines.
- Ensure all colleagues provide excellent customer service to veterans, fellow colleagues, and clinic visitors.
- Participate in managing the clinic’s financial performance.
- Engage in clinic outreach events to support enrollment initiatives.
- Support patient enrollment and retention by providing guidance on scheduling, follow-up visits, or nurse visits.
- Maintain staffing levels consistent with veteran enrollment, contract terms, and clinical outcomes.
- Review and analyze reporting and responsiveness to alerts and notifications.
- Ensure all clinic metrics meet or exceed VA thresholds.
- Recruit, coach, mentor, and retain talent through excellent communication, training, and performance management.
- Develop and maintain a positive, collaborative working relationship with VA partners, keeping the Regional Medical Director informed of significant issues.
- Innovate, embrace, and support new clinical or operational initiatives to drive the success of Valor Healthcare.
Requirements
- 4+ years of clinical medical practice; healthcare management experience preferred.
- Government healthcare environment experience preferred; specific requirements may vary based on VA contract.
- Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree.
- Board certified in family practice or internal medicine.
- Must be credentialed and remain in good standing through the Veterans Health Administration (VA).
- Valid, unrestricted medical license in the state of desired employment or any U.S. state/territory, depending on VA contractual requirements.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS as specified by the individual VAMC contract.
- Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to manage both upward and downward within the organization.
- Energetic and optimistic demeanor with a strong service mentality.
- Ability to resolve colleague, client, and patient issues effectively and timely.
