About the role
As supervised and delegated by a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care in the clinical setting at ScionHealth. We empower our caregivers to do what they do best, value every voice, and create our culture by living our values in day-to-day interactions with patients and teammates.
Responsibilities
- Interact professionally with patients and families, treating them with respect and dignity.
- Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- Communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence.
- Provide direct patient care, consult with nursing staff/providers, and adjust nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care.
- Assess and reassess pain, utilizing appropriate pain management techniques and educating patients and families regarding pain management.
- Demonstrate knowledge of lab requirements and requisitions.
- Collect and record baseline patient vitals, including body temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, and blood pressure.
- Maintain accurate and continued documentation for all assessments, treatments, and evaluations performed.
- Apply knowledge of diseases, surgical conditions, and care requirements to make informed decisions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over a patient’s life span and provide age-appropriate care.
- Interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.
- Apply principles of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
- Follow the six medication rights to reduce the potential for medication errors.
- Maintain current knowledge of medications, IV fluids, and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Assist in establishing a plan of care tailored to patient problems, capabilities, and desires.
- Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
- Assist other nursing staff with the delivery of nursing care and collaborate with providers for patient care and performance improvement.
- Coordinate patient services with referring physicians or facilities.
- Perform other reasonably related job duties as assigned or requested, within the scope of practice.
Requirements
- Successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements for the specific area of work.
- High awareness of patient satisfaction and teamwork.
- Attention to detail and ability to respond calmly and professionally to emergency situations.
- Adaptability to perform well under pressure in a stressful environment.
- Flexibility to work as needed for appropriate departmental coverage.
- Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Proficient time management skills.
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential job functions safely.
- Additional languages preferred.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited program for licensed vocational/practical nurses.
- Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse License.
- BLS Certification required.
- Intravenous Therapy and Blood Certifications preferred.
- ACLS may be required in certain care areas.
- Some experience preferred.
