Clinic Lab Assistant TRU

Essential Functions

• Leads TRU patient scheduling and registration in EPIC.
• Completes study invoicing.
• Receives, prioritizes and directs incoming departmental communications.
• Answers phone calls to department’s main lines and responds to general inquiries.
• Records and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
• Maintains required statistics, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.
• Maintains front desk, supply room and waiting room in a safe and orderly manner.
• Contacts research staff directly or through hospital paging systems as directed.
• Initiates requests for services from ancillary departments.
• Performs related clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, and faxing.
• Maintains supplies, office equipment, fax, printers, and copy machines.

Lab Support

• Performs phlebotomy and capillary puncture procedures on neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school age, adolescent, and adult patients for the collection of specimens.
• Notifies appropriate staff accordingly when proper samples are not obtained.
• Processes specimens and documents results according to stated procedures.

Care Partner (if applicable)

• Assists RN and/or physician with patient treatments/procedures as directed.
• Measures, documents and appropriately reports observations made related to patients and families.
• Verbal reports deviations/changes to RN and co-signs documentation in the patient’s medical record.

Education: High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED). Experience: 1+ years laboratory experience preferred, 1+ years of HUC experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Currently registered with the State of Wisconsin Registry for Nursing Assistants/Home Health Aides to be eligible for employment in the basic provider settings plus federally certified home health agencies and hospices. Certified Nursing Assistant certifications are not required to be renewed after hire. Knowledge of medical terminology. Basic knowledge of phlebotomy, reagents, equipment and equipment maintenance preferred. Ability to perform certain identified routine procedures at an acceptable level. Knowledge of computer and keyboard, Microsoft Window, Excel and basic word processing skills. Interpersonal skills necessary to gather and share information with physicians, patients, visitors, families, and team members in a courteous and confidential manner. Excellent organizational, analytical, and prioritizing skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks done simultaneously. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Ability to stand and walk for up to 70% of the work time.
