Clinic In-Person Lead Speech-Language Pathologist

Job Summary

The Lead Speech-Language Pathologist (Lead SLP) provides clinical leadership within the clinic by supporting quality of care, clinician mentorship, documentation oversight, and adherence to Telespeech Therapy policies and procedures. This role serves as a key clinical resource for SLPs and SLPAs while helping maintain consistency, accountability, and high standards of patient care across the clinic.

Position Summary

The Lead SLP provides clinical leadership within the clinic by supporting quality of care, clinician mentorship, documentation oversight, and adherence to Telespeech Therapy policies and procedures. This role serves as a key clinical resource for SLPs and SLPAs while helping maintain consistency, accountability, and high standards of patient care across the clinic.

Lead Responsibilities

• Provide a consistent daily clinical leadership presence within the clinic. Serve as a point of contact for clinical questions while maintaining appropriate job scope boundaries.

• Support clinic flow and operations when clinical insight or guidance is needed. Maintain open, professional, and frequent communication with clinic leadership regarding clinical operations and concerns.

• Avoid administrative or disciplinary escalation of significant clinical concerns, repeated documentation deficiencies, or matters requiring administrative or disciplinary escalation to clinic leadership and/or the appropriate Director.

• Mentor SLPs and SLPAs in treatment planning, clinical decision-making, and documentation practices. Meet regularly with clinicians to provide feedback regarding work quality, clinical processes, and professional growth.

• Provide guidance and support to clinicians requiring additional coaching or follow-up.

Functional Responsibilities

• Assess and diagnose: Administration and interpretation of formalized and informal assessments, as well as procedure-based evaluations to evaluate a patient's speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing abilities to identify specific disorders.

• Treatment Planning: Create individualized treatment plans tailored to a patient's specific needs and goals. Implement various techniques and exercises to help patients improve their communication skills, strengthen swallowing muscles, and enhance overall function.

• Therapeutic Intervention: Provide speech and language therapy to patients and/or students in both individual and group settings.

• Patient and Family Education: Provide clear and supportive counseling to patients and their families about their condition, treatment options, and strategies for managing disorders.

• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient evaluations, treatment progress, and outcomes to ensure continuity of care and for billing purposes.

• Collaboration: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with other healthcare professionals, teachers, parents/caregivers, school administrators, and other therapists to provide comprehensive patient care.

• Progress Monitoring: Regularly evaluate patient progress to adjust treatment plans and strategies as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.

Requirements/Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.

• Valid California State License in Speech-Language Pathology— must be maintained throughout employment.

• Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP).

• Experience supervising or mentoring clinicians and/or SLPAs preferred.

• Strong knowledge of documentation standards, compliance requirements, and therapy best practices.

• Equivalent to two (2) years of experience providing patient-based services.

• Completion of ASHA supervision requirements — must be maintained throughout employment.
