About the role

This position is responsible for scheduling, financially clearing, and pre-registering patients via telephone. This role serves as the main point of contact for physician referrals to the clinic and includes obtaining and entering demographic and insurance information. The employee will place daily calls to various insurance companies for authorization, notification, and benefits verification, as well as handle point-of-service cash collection and interact closely with internal and external administrative liaisons.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and pre-registers patients, including obtaining and entering demographic and insurance information.
  • Financially clears patients by verifying insurance and benefit information per the patient’s insurance plan.
  • Contacts various insurance companies daily for insurance authorization, notification, and verification purposes.
  • Calls patients to advise of any deductible or co-pay due at the time of appointment.
  • Accesses and utilizes various online resources for benefits verification.
  • Ensures all requested patients from a facility are pre-registered in a timely manner.
  • Ensures all point-of-service cash is collected and posted according to department policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Refers patients with financial issues who are unable to make appropriate payment arrangements to the facility financial counselor.
  • Interacts with various internal and external administrative liaisons.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Managed Care, Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payers.
  • Performs all other duties as directed to support efficient service to the hospital and department.
  • Coordinates with Patient Support Specialists and other clinic departments to manage patient coordination.

This position is designated as safety-sensitive due to the critical nature of medical care provided to patients. A lapse in attention to detail may pose a threat to health or safety, resulting in injury, illness, or death. The role requires constant alertness to work in a safe manner.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a related field (e.g., patient admissions, registration, insurance verification).
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred.

Schedule

Varied shifts, Monday through Friday. May include some weekends dependent on business need.
