Non-Exempt position providing patient care in an office setting under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, APN, and/or physician. Focuses on psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care, communication needs, and professional standards.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to scheduling template guidelines for new and return appointments; document no-shows, rescheduled, or cancelled appointments; create telephone encounters as needed or direct calls for triage; schedule and follow up on referral appointments and testing/procedures.
  • Manage fax in-box, link documents to patient accounts daily, attach test results to the correct patient and order, and release medical records per policy with proper authorization.
  • Obtain and document accurate patient medical history, including pertinent history, pain assessment, current medications, health risk factors, and other relevant information.
  • Complete pre-certification for testing/procedures, handle normal result letters/calls in a timely manner, and serve as backup for receptionist.
  • Record chief complaint, assess and reassess pain with age, culture, and psychosocial appropriateness.
  • Assist physicians with procedures, utilize other departments for interdisciplinary care, and apply pain management techniques.
  • Prepare and administer medications based on patient age and clinical condition per policy and nursing standards; manage medication supply and contact pharmacy as needed.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, follow-up instructions, and provide educational handouts as directed by the provider.
  • Communicate effectively with other specialties and disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Maintain patient safety, use hand-off communication protocols, and ensure department security.
  • Complete medication refill requests and new prescriptions as delegated by practitioners.
  • Comply with all safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Current Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum 1 year of CCMA experience (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of physician office experience (preferred).

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
