Client Services Specialist-Objective - Madison Appellate Office
About the role
Located in Madison, WI, the State Public Defender Board is recruiting for a full‑time Client Services Specialist‑Objective in the Madison Appellate Office. The SPD’s mission is to enhance the quality of justice throughout Wisconsin by providing high‑quality, cost‑effective representation to indigent clients, protecting the rights of accused individuals, and advocating for effective defense services and a rational criminal justice system. Responsibilities
- Gather, evaluate, and analyze records and information about clients, including social history, treatment, medical, education, and vocational needs.
- Assist assigned lawyers in developing post‑conviction issues based on the analyzed information.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications (required):
- Obtaining, interpreting, and analyzing records (e.g., mental health, alcohol and/or drug treatment, medical, Department of Corrections, etc.)
- Communicating with diverse clientele (e.g., mental health, addiction, poverty, criminal background, etc.)
- Drafting reports regarding an individual's social background and/or treatment needs
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Well‑qualified candidates also have experience and/or training in:
- Working within the criminal legal system, including support for adults in criminal court, youth clients, individuals with mental health challenges, and those involved in family defense cases
- Providing social work assistance in case consultation

Pay
Starting salary range for the Client Services Specialist‑Objective is $20.23–$35.03 per hour (pay schedule‑range 12‑64). A one‑year probationary period applies; moving expense reimbursement may be available for selected candidates.
