Position Description

The Client Advocate serves with a Christ-centered focus by modeling Christian behavior and building relationships with individuals and families in the community. The Client Advocate facilitates a collaborative client-centered process that assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, advocates, monitors, and evaluates the services needed to meet an individual’s holistic needs. Through intentional outreach, communication, and connection to community resources, the Client Advocate works to promote long-term stability and well-being. This role is grounded in the heart of a servant, as expressed in Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with individuals both inside and outside of The Rescue Mission to establish and maintain trust-based relationships to support clients through varying stages of their personal and spiritual journeys, removing barriers that inhibit the achievement of the clients’ goals.
  • Embody an unreasonable advocacy mindset. Unreasonable advocacy is the art and act of living and believing beyond standard norms of case management. The unreasonable client advocate is unrelenting in their advocacy of the people being managed whether on their case load or not.
  • Conduct holistic needs assessments to collaboratively develop individualized life and care plans with measurable goals and timelines.
  • Provide direct support through advocacy, referrals, and accompaniment to community resources such as community organizations, churches, and service providers to strengthen a network of social, medical, mental, and vocational support for clients.
  • Prepare and facilitate training sessions and small group meetings that foster personal growth, discipleship, and life skills while empowering individuals to work diligently on their personal development and progress towards their goals and encouraging spiritual formation and community integration.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of interactions and progress toward goals by recording case notes and ensure all required releases of information are completed and confidentiality standards are upheld.
  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with community organizations, churches, and service providers to ensure individuals receive appropriate support.

Other Duties

  • Attend quarterly All Staff meetings.
  • Job performance should demonstrate The Rescue Mission’s Core Values; Organizational Integrity, Organizational Unity and Organizational Effectiveness.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Be prepared to pray with and offer spiritual support to others.

Education, Training and Experience

  • A high school degree or GED required.
  • Previous experience in life coaching or case management preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a Human Services-related field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of internet and email.
  • Ability to work with individuals of various socio-economic, ethnic, and racial populations.
  • Ability to comply with personal and business requirements and expectations as detailed in the Employee Handbook.
  • Thorough knowledge of 12 Steps of Recovery from a Christian perspective.
  • Ability to reflect personal integrity in attitude and behavior toward participants, volunteers and other staff through the lens of justice and mercy.

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Skills

  • Completion of Trauma Informed Care training.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and retain information.
  • Ability to solve problems, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • Flexibility in work hours when needed to ensure proper coverage, which includes Rescue Mission recognized holidays.
  • Ability to tolerate and manage stress.
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and motivation.
  • Ability to balance justice and mercy with accountability.
  • Ability to apply Biblical truths to life situations from a pastoral perspective.
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health disorders such as Depression, Anxiety, etc.
  • Ability to be trauma-sensitive and relate to individuals from all socio-economic levels and ethnic backgrounds.

Pay

The wage for these roles is $20/hour.

Schedule

The schedules for these positions are listed below:

  • Full-Time: Tuesday - Saturday, 8AM - 4PM
  • Full-Time: Monday - Friday, 8AM - 4PM
