Clerk III - Accounting
About the role
The Clerk III - Accounting position at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is a senior-level administrative and financial support role. The role involves providing support services in areas such as bookkeeping, financial activities, inventory audits, and mail processing.
Responsibilities
- Receives, sorts, date stamps, and distributes all campus mail from the post office.
- Participates in the daily run to the local post office to pick up and drop off mail.
- Receives, files, and stores completed purchase vouchers and journal vouchers (Regional facility) and deposit vouchers.
- Calls in and prepares daily receipts and daily bank deposits.
- Assists the Property Department on their annual asset inventory for all assets in the accounting department.
- Assists with canteen inventory (if one on the campus).
- Performs other duties as assigned, including cashiers and fiscal services.
- Provides training on tasks to new employees in the same role.
Requirements
The Clerk III must attend work on a regular and predictable schedule, perform other duties as assigned, and comply with agency leave policy. The role requires working under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
Qualifications
Experience performing clerical functions, experience in a cash handling/customer service environment, preferably in a state hospital or state supported living center setting, graduation from a standard or high school or equivalent, and a valid driver’s license are required. Additional qualifications include:
- Knowledge of clerical and financial procedures;
- Proper use of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and arithmetic;
- Business and financial policies and procedures;
- Records administration and postage procedures;
- Microsoft applications to include proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with the use of 10 key calculator data entry;
- Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports;
- Communicate effectively;
- Train other employees.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of clerical and financial procedures; proper use of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and arithmetic; of business and financial policies and procedures; and of records administration and postage procedures. Skill in using a personal computer. Microsoft applications to include proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with the use of 10 key calculator data entry. Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports; to transfer client effects or mail from one location to another; to make arithmetic computations; to communicate effectively; and to train other employees.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $2,694.33 - $3,946.25 per month, paid monthly.
Schedule
The position is a full-time role with a day shift, with up to 5% travel and up to 10% flexibility in work hours.
