About the role

All camps share a common purpose: creating an environment where Young Life staff bring Christ to life by creatively presenting the complete gospel of Jesus Christ. Speaking clearly from the Scriptures, camp speakers introduce kids to the person of Christ, the nature of humanity, the work of Christ on the cross, the hope of the resurrection, and the opportunity for reconciliation with God.

Responsibilities

  • Spiritual Formation
    • Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus.
    • Participate in opportunities for personal spiritual growth.
    • Develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan with supervisor direction.
    • Foster an environment for ongoing spiritual development, including execution of personal spiritual growth plans.
    • Determine a ministry of Administration statement that communicates goals and practices.
  • Attentive Hospitality
    • Equip servant leaders to anticipate and respond to the needs of guests, staff, and vendors through Christ-like service.
    • Establish a department posture of service that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism.
    • Demonstrate and train exceptional customer service.
    • Administer reservation systems, including:
      • Coordinating reservations for Young Life and non-Young Life groups.
      • Communicating reservation contracts and policies effectively.
      • Coordinating all summer volunteers (adult guests/hosts, medical volunteers, summer interns, summer staff, and work crew).
  • Interpersonal Relationships
    • Build relationships reflecting the character of God with guests, staff, vendors, and neighbors to foster healthy community.
    • Ensure department staff demonstrate the importance of interpersonal relationships.
    • Maintain healthy communication with other camp departments.
    • Network with other administrative managers to learn and share best practices.
    • Work well with summer assigned teams and support their ministry goals.
    • Serve as the HR Lead for camp, including:
      • Maintaining staff personnel files.
      • Processing and on-boarding new employees.
      • Maintaining sick/vacation leave records for salaried staff.
  • Comprehensive Stewardship
    • Manage finances, people, buildings, and equipment with integrity.
    • Develop systems and train staff to participate in comprehensive stewardship.
    • Set an example in use of time, personal integrity, service, spiritual devotion, compassion, work ethic, and commitment to the ministry.
    • Coordinate all aspects of camp accounting processes, including:
      • Maintaining financial accounts, reports, reconciliations, and cash collection/deposits.
      • Creating and managing the financial budget for the Administrative department.
    • Evaluate department systems and processes annually, updating documents for accuracy.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other software applications.
    • Develop understanding of equipment maintenance and operation as needed.
  • Talent Development
    • Engage in the Individual Development Plan process and participate in training and development opportunities.
    • Foster department staff participation in the Individual Development Plan process and other training.
    • Pursue opportunities in mission leadership, personal growth, and development.
    • Manage people by utilizing their strengths and managing their weaknesses.
    • Utilize good hiring and onboarding processes.
    • Establish and execute training for volunteers, work crew, summer staff, and camp staff to create a pipeline for the mission.
    • Perform yearly evaluations for supervisory staff.
  • Embracing Excellence
    • Lead department staff in executing daily responsibilities with attention to national standards and metrics for excellent camp operations.
    • Follow national admin policies and maintain Young Life office reception standards.
    • Participate in admin department trainings (events, department calls, and communication).
    • Maintain weekly statistics on camper usage, bed count, and meal count, reporting timely to Young Life Camping.
    • Coordinate and communicate logistical details for summer camp guest, volunteer, and assigned team arrival and departure.

Training Expectations

  • Participate in a structured, year-long training process with a peer resource coach.
  • Attend annual departmental training.
  • Participate in periodic department-wide video conferences.
  • Regularly participate in Young Life trainings and department opportunities.

Requirements

  • Experience with Young Life as a staff person or volunteer.
  • Spiritual maturity, including wisdom and discernment to contribute to difficult decision processes.
  • 4-6 years of administrative, project management, or similar experience.
  • Experience in training and leading teams.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and teaches others to do the same.
  • Experience in organizing and prioritizing tasks.
  • Ability to find answers to questions.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn Young Life internal systems.
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent life experience.

Notes

Young Life is a relational ministry. Staff must convey Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff. Responding to unexpected guest needs promptly and professionally is important. All staff members are expected to represent Young Life positively and professionally within the community and work with and minister to volunteer high school and college-age young people.

Pay

The anticipated annual salary for this position ranges from $45,000 to $50,000, depending on relevant education, experience, and location.
