Cleaner (Hourly)

Responsibilities

  • Wash floors, corridors, stairs, stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows (inside or outside) using mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning tools.
  • Collect, transport, and dispose of medical waste or spoiled linens following cleaning procedures.
  • Clean blood spills and bodily fluids, including urine, vomit, and feces.
  • Strip and wax floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; dust assigned areas using manual or mechanical equipment.
  • Clean and scrub all areas of lavatories and locker rooms, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, showers, shower walls, drains, tile floors, and locker room common areas.
  • Replace light bulbs, dust or wash light fixtures, and clean high places (e.g., ceilings) using ladders and scaffolds.
  • Clean and polish furniture, metal fixtures, and equipment.
  • Remove hazardous articles from floors, furniture, and equipment, placing them in designated receptacles.
  • Move furniture and equipment for cleaning activities or set up for meetings/special events.
  • Empty trash, recyclables, and waste according to the cleaning schedule.
  • Assemble cleaning carts, mix and dilute cleaning solutions per manufacturer directions.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing and specialized protective equipment as required.
  • Check supplies and equipment functioning; notify supervisor of low supplies, malfunctions, or building maintenance issues.
  • Follow disinfectant processes to minimize infection spread.
  • May remove snow, salt walkways, clean sidewalks/yards/drives, or mow lawns using manual or mechanical equipment.
  • Clean facilities requiring a high degree of cleanliness.

Requirements

  • Physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
  • Able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions.

Background Investigation

All prospective employees will undergo a Criminal Background Check (CBC), including State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. Convictions must be reported; felony or misdemeanor convictions, or falsified/omitted information on the application, may disqualify candidates. Each case is reviewed individually under State and federal laws. Fingerprinting may be required, with fees covered by the applicant.

Prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) and may be required to pay associated fees. For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) roles, candidates will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL); those found responsible for serious/repeated abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment.
