Cleaner (Part-Time)

Required Qualifications

• Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications.
• No education or experience requirements.
• Physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Able to follow and understand simple verbal and/or written instructions in English.

Brief Description of Duties

• Cleans all areas of lavatories, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, etc.
• Removes refuse from buildings.
• Picks up and removes hazardous articles which may be on floors, furniture and equipment and places them in designated receptacles or in appropriate places.
• Moves furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning and care functions.
• Uses mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning implements to wash floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions, windows from the inside of buildings, etc.
• Replaces light bulbs, dusts and/or washes light fixtures and high places such as ceilings using appropriate equipment such as ladders and scaffolds.
• Interacts appropriately with customers. Notifies supervisors if further assistance is required.
• Strips the wax from furniture; cleans and polishes furniture.
• Uses manual and/or mechanical equipment, occasionally removes snow and ice on outdoor walkways and staircases.
• Uses hand-dusting equipment, dusts assigned areas.
• Uses designated equipment, polishes wood and metal fixtures and equipment.
• Uses manual and/or mechanical equipment, occasionally removes snow and ice on outdoor walkways and staircases.

Special Notes

• Part-time positions, 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
• FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
• Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
• Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.
• SG 5 Hiring Rate $17,226 per year at .50% fte.
• The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.

Essential Position

This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such are required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
