St. Edward Catholic School seeks a responsible, energetic, and nurturing individual with experience in early childhood education to support teachers leading a pre-k program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead teachers in planning, developing, and implementing age-appropriate curriculum.
  • Provide support to teachers in devising and imparting lesson plans on a daily basis.
  • Set up interest centers and prepare instructional materials such as flash cards and cutouts.
  • Supervise students within the classroom and during recreational activities.
  • Provide a nurturing environment to ensure comfort and security for young students.
  • Distribute and collect workbooks and worksheets; assist students with assignments.
  • Guide independent study and handle remedial work activities.
  • Assist students during lunchtime, toileting, and washing activities.
  • Enforce cleanup activities after lunchtime by modeling appropriate behavior.
  • Observe students for changes in behavior and report findings to the lead teacher.
  • Assist the lead teacher in evaluating students and writing assessments.
  • Supervise students during field trips to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Organize and supervise physical education programs during school time.
  • Handle student record-keeping, filing, and photocopying activities.
  • Supervise and instruct students in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Provide one-on-one support to young students, such as helping them write their names or learn initial counting.
  • Maintain classroom order and behavioral management to ensure safety.
  • Participate in curriculum and staff development programs within the school or district.
  • Attend all required in-service days.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a two-year Associate’s Degree.
  • Commitment to student growth and success.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member.
  • Proficiency in technology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four-year B.A./B.S. Degree.
  • State Teacher Certification in an appropriate grade level.
  • Three years of teaching experience; early childhood experience preferred.
  • Catechist certification.
  • Safe Haven training.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents in person.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Walk long distances across campus and within the classroom.
  • Use hands to handle or manipulate teaching tools (technology, textbooks, student work, chalkboard/whiteboard).
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Climb steps.
  • Sit for periods of time—on chairs and the floor.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.

Schedule

Full-time, hourly contract basis for the 2026-2027 school year (August–May) with some additional training days. Specific days needed: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday (one or more).

  • Minimum/Maximum hours per week: 40
  • Job hours: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM (additional hours may be added for meetings, etc.)
