Hourly Rate: $16.63. This is an on-campus, part-time position based in Champaign, Illinois, with a schedule of up to 19 hours per week.

About the Role

The Classroom Assistant (CA) & Lab Assistant provides support to the course instructor to ensure effective delivery of required materials and fosters a positive learning environment. Roles may vary depending on the course. The position requires the ability to work independently from written or verbal instructions and collaborate well with instructors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with classroom instruction.
  • Prepare laboratory materials.
  • Obtain and distribute course materials.
  • Assist with completing forms in accordance with department procedures; submit reports and other materials as required.
  • Operate office equipment, such as copiers, PCs, and/or phone systems.
  • Work independently and efficiently.
  • May assist with special projects and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting. The background check includes, but is not limited to, exclusionary offenses per the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Maintain confidentiality, be punctual, and communicate changes in work schedule in advance.
  • Appropriate attire as discussed for the work environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Additional Notes

In compliance with SURS return-to-work restrictions (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates must either not be a SURS annuitant or be willing to suspend their SURS annuity upon employment, except those receiving their annuity under the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump-sum payment. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
