Classroom Floater

About the Role

Ohana Child Development Center provides the highest quality Montessori/RIE-based programming for children 4 months to 5 years of age. Ohana serves the families of Bandwidth employees and is located in the Bandwidth Raleigh, NC Headquarters. We are looking for qualified, passionate assistants/floaters dedicated to providing respectful, encouraging, and cognitively stimulating programming for the children in their care. We seek individuals open to learning, continuing education, and working in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage physical care of children (including diapering and toileting) using Montessori and RIE techniques.
• Assist in each classroom on an assigned basis to provide breaks for teachers and teacher assistants at all levels (infants, toddlers, preschool).
• Seamlessly continue activities the relieving teacher was doing, including diaper changes, cleaning the classroom, settling children for rest periods, and art activities.
• Adapt to ever-changing environments, accept constructive feedback, and implement appropriate action.
• Be flexible to the daily business demands of the Center, including scheduled working hours and room assignments.
• Ensure the daily care of every child by following all school/classroom procedures, standards, and licensing guidelines.
• Ensure visual supervision and child safety at all times.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
• Model appropriate pro-social behavior and redirect children using positive discipline strategies.
• Form respectful relationships with families, children, and co-teachers, acknowledging individual differences, family styles, and cultural/socioeconomic diversity.
• Communicate important information to co-teachers regarding aspects of the children and classroom.
• Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of Ohana and Bandwidth at all times.
• Keep up with required training hours and certifications according to licensing.
• Attend faculty meetings regularly.

Working Conditions

• Works in a normal Child Development Center environment.
• Must be able to lift, move, or hold children weighing up to 60 pounds.
• Must be able to observe children from various distances.
• Must be able to lift children from various heights.
• Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, reach with hands and arms, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Must have the ability to navigate uneven outdoor terrain for limited periods in various mild to moderate weather conditions.

Requirements

• Education: High School diploma or equivalency (GED); EDU 119 Certificate.
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience working with children in a group setting.
• Knowledge: Developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood.
• Skills: Strong communication skills (oral and written).

Preferred Qualifications

• Education: Early Childhood Certificate.
• Experience: 3+ years of experience working with infants/toddlers and/or preschool; Montessori programming experience preferred.
• Skills: Fluency in languages other than English.
