About the role
The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Pediatrics has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Classroom Assistant to work in Miami, FL.
Core Job Functions
- Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, and supervised role-playing methods.
- Assists in the implementation of individual education programs for students and helps monitor their progress.
- Supports students with emotional or behavioral problems and helps them develop social skills.
- Supports teachers in photocopying and maintaining student records.
- Works with the teacher in planning and implementing a program of instruction that adheres to the school’s philosophy, goals, and objectives.
- Works with the teacher in making purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.
- Affords responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
- Assists the classroom teacher with the implementation of the daily curriculum and activities.
- Assists in the implementation of individual education programs for students and helps monitor their progress.
- Works with the teacher in planning and implementing a program of instructions that adheres to the school’s philosophy, goals, and objectives.
- Works with the teacher in making purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.
- Affords responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- No experience required
- Skills in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion
- Commitment to the University’s core values
- Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment
Other Requirements
- Completion of criminal history checks and all background screening requirements, including Level 2 screening requirements in accordance with the requirements of Sections, 1012.485; and 1012.32; and 1012.487, Florida Statutes.
- Compliance with requirements mandated through contracts with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Florida Department of Health Early Steps Programs, The Children’s Trust, and APPLE Accreditation as well as license requirements mandated by the Department of Children and Families.
- Completion of the Department of Children and Families required training hours including CPR and First Aid Training within probationary period.
- Completion of in-service hours required annually through APPLE Accreditation and the Department of Children and Families.
- Completion of certification program of study to obtain the Florida Child Care Professional Credential is preferred.
