Classroom Assistant

About the Role

Reverend George A. Brown Memorial School, a PreK - Grade 4 school located in Sparta, NJ, is seeking a Classroom Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year.

This position reports to the certified classroom teacher, principal, and assistant principal. The goal is to assist the classroom teacher by working with individual and small groups of students to provide support and help all students maximize their educational opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• College-level work in education or related field
• Successful experience working with children
• Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
• Successful completion of criminal background check and Virtus training
• Basic understanding of the Catholic faith and willingness to support and carry out the mission of the school

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher with the general care of all students in the classroom
• Assist with individual and small group instruction under the supervision of the teacher and reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher
• Assist students in moving through the school building
• Assist special teachers (art, music, library, gym, Spanish, and makerspace) with students during class sessions
• Assist and monitor students in the cafeteria during lunch
• Supervise students at recess on the playground
• Help with supervision of students on planned field trips
• Complete clerical duties assigned by the classroom teacher
• Cover other classes as assigned by the principal or assistant principal
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or assistant principal

Pay

Hourly wage: $17.00 - $18.00/hour

Schedule

No more than 29.5 hours per week, no benefits.
