About the role
Provides assistance and support to the Teacher in planning and implementing classroom instruction to specifically meet the educational needs of the assigned student. Provides encouragement and support to the student to contribute to the best possible educational experience.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Teacher in planning classroom curriculum and implements plans to meet the physical, emotional, and educational needs of the assigned student.
- Provides assistance to the Teacher for the assessment of an assigned student’s abilities and capabilities.
- Aids in the development and implementation of lesson plans and activities that are individual-specific, meet the learning needs of each student, encourage increased skills, and address specific IEP goals.
- Assists the Teacher in establishing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to maximum academic and social learning by maintaining order and guiding each student to socially appropriate behavior.
- Assists the Teacher in the proper utilization of classroom equipment and materials; makes recommendations regarding the purchase and usage of new supplies and curriculum materials.
- Under direction of the Teacher, observes and tracks student behavior, gathers behavioral data, performs calculations, and creates graphic illustrations for review by Teachers and clinical-specific staff to identify and monitor student proficiency and performance levels, supporting modifications to the current educational program.
- Provides ongoing assistance to the Teacher in the management of individual student behavior to create and maintain a safe and secure classroom environment; reports any safety hazards or property damage to the Teacher.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years of direct support experience, preferably within an educational or classroom-based setting; or
- Completion of 30 college credits with at least six (6) months of related work experience; or
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Qualifications
Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
Pay
Hourly rate: $20.07–$22.63 per hour.
