Classroom Aide/1:1

About the role

Being a Classroom Aide at Devereux Day Academy in Highland means you will work with other dedicated professionals who share your passion for helping individuals in need. You will work in a classroom with low student to staff ratios, assisting with personal care needs, facilitating participation in individual and small-group instruction, and supporting learning and behavior.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated one-on-one support to a student throughout the entire school day, ensuring their safety, supervision, and participation in all educational and recreational activities.
• Assists with personal care needs, including toileting, hygiene, and other daily living activities as appropriate.
• Supports learning by facilitating participation in individual and small-group instruction, providing prompts and reinforcement, and implementing behavior support plans.
• Maintain accurate data collection and documentation, uphold confidentiality and professionalism, and participate in required trainings and staff meetings.
• Assist with classroom support tasks, special assignments, and other duties as needed while adhering to Devereux's philosophy of providing individualized, accountable, and positive behavioral supports.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED required with one year of experience; or Associates/Bachelors degree (preferred) with one (1) year of related experience preferred.
• Valid NY Drivers License required.
• Flexible, patient, energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor.
• A strong passion for working with and helping children and adults with special needs.

• Salary: (commensurate with education and experience)
• With HS Diploma/GED - $20 - $21.40 per hour
• With BA/BS - $21 - $22.47 per hour
• With MA/MS or higher - $22 - $23.54 per hour

Skills

• Experience working in a classroom with low student to staff ratios.
• Ability to work with individuals with developmental disabilities and helping them to achieve their highest potential.
• Knowledge of how to facilitate participation in individual and small-group instruction.
• Ability to implement behavior support plans.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring significant and frequent amounts of walking, sitting, stooping, bending & standing.
