Classroom Aide/1:1

About the role

Being a Classroom Aide has its Advantages. At Devereux, you will work with other dedicated professionals who share your passion for helping individuals in need. You will work in a classroom with low student to staff ratios, supporting students with developmental disabilities and helping them achieve their highest potential.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support an assigned student in the education program across the entire school day in all instructional and leisure activities while the student is present in the school building.
• Provide assistance for the assigned student in completing activities of daily living, including toileting, menstrual care (for females), and other self-care activities if appropriate for that student.
• Facilitate the student's participation in small group or individual learning activities.
• Implement behavior support plans as appropriate for the assigned student.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED with one year of related experience.
• Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree with one (1) year of related experience preferred.
• Valid NY Drivers License.
• Flexible, patient, energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor.
• A strong passion for working with and helping children and adults with special needs.

Physical Requirements

• Pre-employment physical required.
• Significant and frequent amounts of walking, sitting, stooping, bending & standing required.
• Frequent planned, outside activities causing exposure to sunlight and heat.
• Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes.
• Good manual dexterity.
