Classroom Aide/1:1
About the role
Being a Classroom Aide has its Advantages. At Devereux, you will work with other dedicated professionals who share your passion for helping individuals in need. You will work in a classroom with low student to staff ratios, supporting students with developmental disabilities and helping them achieve their highest potential.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support an assigned student in the education program across the entire school day in all instructional and leisure activities while the student is present in the school building.
- Provide assistance for the assigned student in completing activities of daily living, including toileting, menstrual care (for females), and other self-care activities if appropriate for that student.
- Facilitate the student's participation in small group or individual learning activities.
- Implement behavior support plans as appropriate for the assigned student.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED with one year of related experience.
- Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree with one (1) year of related experience preferred.
- Valid NY Drivers License.
- Flexible, patient, energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor.
- A strong passion for working with and helping children and adults with special needs.
Physical Requirements
- Pre-employment physical required.
- Significant and frequent amounts of walking, sitting, stooping, bending & standing required.
- Frequent planned, outside activities causing exposure to sunlight and heat.
- Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes.
- Good manual dexterity.
