About the role

At the Green River Correctional Complex, the mission is to promote safety for the citizens of the Commonwealth by operating an efficient adult correctional institution. The Classification and Treatment Officer performs duties in the evaluation, assessment, and counseling of inmates to provide a safe, secure, humane environment and prepare incarcerated felons for successful reintegration into society.

Responsibilities

  • Interview, evaluate, and assess inmates to identify behavioral patterns
  • Develop case history on inmates
  • Serve on committees to determine classification
  • Prepare reports to assist with classification
  • Provide daily counsel to inmates regarding the institution as well as personal or family matters
  • Respond to inmate requests and outside agencies

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree
  • Additional experience in corrections, law enforcement, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis
  • Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis
  • All applicants must meet all federal and state laws applicable to the carrying, use, and possession of firearms and ammunition at the time of employment
  • Employees in this position are prohibited from using medical cannabis, even though it has been legalized in the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office setting within a correctional institution.

Pay

$52,501.44 annually.

Schedule

40 hours per week. Initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months.
