About the Role

The Joint Class Size Assessment Council (JCSAC) allocates Class-Size Teacher positions to address oversized classrooms in Priority Schools and other impacted schools. These positions are reviewed annually and concluded at the end of each school year. Under the supervision of the school principal, the Class Size Teacher is responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes.

Responsibilities

• Instructional planning, including written lesson plans aligned with instructional program objectives.
• Establishing positive learning environment standards and evaluating pupils’ progress.
• Maintaining current and accurate records of pupils’ achievements.
• Implementing contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology.
• Utilizing a range of instructional materials and participating in the development of new teaching techniques.
• Creating bulletin boards and interest areas reflective of pupils’ current work.
• Exhibiting and applying knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
• Participating in programs to improve student attendance and anti-vandalism initiatives.
• Establishing and maintaining reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom and school grounds.
• Maintaining accurate attendance records and seating charts.
• Encouraging student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept.
• Ensuring fairness in teacher-pupil relationships and exhibiting respect for students.
• Initiating conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and ancillary personnel.
• Communicating with parents or guardians regarding academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
• Participating in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings.
• Coordinating and attending class field trips (as needed).
• Participating in extra-curricular and after-school activities (as needed).
• Utilizing community resources to support student learning.

Requirements

• Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
• Possession of at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of Education:
  • Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Educator License with Stipulations (ELS)

• Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
• Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching.
• Knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques.
• Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
• Ability to cooperate with school faculty and administration in developing and implementing instructional programs.
• Ability to work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and community representatives.
• Understanding of physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
• Skill in applying contemporary teaching principles and practices.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and sound professional judgment.

Physical Requirements

Light work: Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force often to move objects. The role may require significant walking or standing, or sitting with arm control for pushing or pulling.

Conditions of Employment

• Must establish and maintain Chicago residency within six months of hire and throughout employment.
• Completion of the Class Size Teacher - Interim Assignment Acceptance Form is required.
• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 within 30 days of hire or submit to weekly testing.

Pay

Salary range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39
