Class Size Teacher - 9-12 Physical Education

About the role

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is the third-largest school district in the United States, serving over 340,000 students in 600+ schools and employing nearly 36,000 people, most of them teachers. The Joint Class Size Assessment Council (JCSAC) allocates Class-Size Teacher positions to address oversized classrooms in Priority Schools and other impacted schools. These positions are reviewed annually and concluded at the end of each school year. Under the supervision of the school principal, the Class Size Teacher is responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes.

Responsibilities

• Instructional planning, including written lesson plans following the objectives of the instructional programs.
• Establishing positive learning environment expectation standards for all pupils.
• Evaluating pupils’ progress and maintaining current and accurate records of pupils’ achievements.
• Implementing instructional methods using contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology.
• Applying knowledge of the curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
• Participating in programs to improve student attendance and anti-vandalism initiatives.
• Establishing and maintaining reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom and on school grounds.
• Maintaining accurate attendance records and seating charts.
• Encouraging student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept.
• Ensuring fairness in teacher-pupil relationships and exhibiting understanding and respect for students.
• Initiating appropriate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and/or ancillary personnel.
• Communicating with parents or guardians regarding pupils' academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
• Participating in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings.
• Coordinating and attending class field trips (as needed).
• Participating in extra-curricular and after-school activities (as needed).
• Utilizing appropriate community resources.

Requirements

• Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
• Possession of at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of Education:
  • Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Educator License with Stipulations (ELS)

Physical Requirements

Light work: Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force often to move objects. This role requires walking or standing to a significant degree or sitting most of the time but entails pushing or pulling of arm controls.

Conditions of Employment

• Establish and maintain Chicago residency within six months of hire date and throughout employment.
• Completion of the Class Size Teacher - Interim Assignment Acceptance Form is required.
• Be fully vaccinated within 30 days of hire date or submit to weekly COVID-19 testing.

Pay

Salary Range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39
