We are hiring CDL A Drivers based out of Columbus, MN, with early morning dispatch four to five days per week (Monday–Saturday). This position may include multiple night layovers, with company-paid hotel accommodations and a food stipend. No Sunday work required.

Pay

  • Minimum $320/day plus component pay (cases, miles, stops)
  • $7,500 sign-on bonus (terms apply: not eligible if you have worked for a Performance Food Group (PFG) owned company within the last 6 months)
  • Average annual earnings: $90,000/year

About the Role

This is an entry-level driver training role. The driver is responsible for learning to and/or gaining experience in driving a tractor-trailer or straight truck intrastate and/or interstate on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and/or overnight routes to deliver and unload various food and food-related products to customers. All routes must be completed safely in accordance with Company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

The Driver Trainee communicates and interacts with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally, ensuring all services and duties are executed in accordance with preferred work methods and customer service practices. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, performing any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Responsibilities

  • Attends and successfully completes PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required. Completes and maintains all training documentation per requirements.
  • Rides with and assists driver trainer in executing deliveries as required. Follows all instructions and directions provided by the driver trainer.
  • Performs all required safety checks (e.g., pre/post trip), including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations. Ensures tractor/truck and trailer meet company safety standards and reports any safety issues or required repairs.
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately reports any safety hazards.
  • Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight. Performs count checks of items and verifies customer invoices of loaded products.
  • Completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly.
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed.
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to a predetermined route delivery schedule.
  • Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas. Performs damage control checks on items, scanning and contacting supervisor about removing orders according to company policy.
  • Verifies delivery of items with the customer and obtains proper signatures. Collects money (cash or checks) where required.
  • Loads customer returns onto the trailer and secures trailer doors. Ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns, bringing them to the driver check-in and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Unloads all equipment and materials and removes trash from trailers as required.
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters logs in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and keeps trailers clear and clean as required.
  • At the end of the shift, secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 6+ months of commercial driving experience
  • High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent
  • Valid CDL A
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years
  • Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure a new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize a two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout the shift (product generally ranges from 10-35 pounds and up to 60-90 pounds, depending on the location)
