Class A CDL Commercial Driver – Local- Front Royal

About the role

InterChange Express started with a single tractor and five trailers and has grown to over 60 tractors, over 350 reefer and dry van trailers, a thriving intermodal business through the Port of Virginia locations, and a national service footprint. The company offers local, regional, OTR and intermodal opportunities, with terminals in Harrisonburg, Front Royal and Portsmouth, VA.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate assigned commercial motor vehicle in full compliance with all federal, state and local laws/regulations.
• Support local transportation operations based from the Front Royal/Winchester area.
• Be flexible and open to a wide range of assignments while on‑duty.
• Report for duty as assigned on a regular shift.
• Operate 53’ dry van or reefer equipment and intermodal containers.
• Communicate all equipment condition issues to designated company staff.
• Do not operate or allow operation of equipment that does not meet federal, state or local standards.
• Complete, maintain and submit required paperwork, log books, shipping documents per requested schedules.
• Adhere to all federal, state, local and company safety rules and regulations.
• Foster positive, appropriate and productive relationships with customers and the general public through responsible driving habits.
• Maintain positive relationships with InterChange staff and departments.
• Perform assigned duties safely, quickly and efficiently to avoid unnecessary expense.
• Promote the growth, profitability and success of the company through professional performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school degree preferred.
• Current CDL‑A with a driving record acceptable to the company’s insurance carrier.
• Current Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
• Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 75 pounds at shoulder height.
• Ability to read and write well enough to understand and complete required documentation, shipping forms, road signs and other written communications.
• Ability to enter and exit the truck cab safely and repeatedly during the work shift.
• Ability to crank landing gear, operate 5th wheel release, connect air/electrical lines without difficulty and repeatedly during work shifts.
• Ability to properly secure loads using provided straps and other equipment.
• Ability to repeatedly open and close trailer and shipping container doors throughout the workday (door weights may vary from 120 to 350 lbs each).
• Pre‑employment background check, drug screening, and physical are required.

Pay

59.5 cents per mile and/or $22‑24.00 per hour (where pertinent based on work assignment).

Schedule

Home weekends (regular shift with expected reporting as assigned).
