About the Role
The Material Handler is responsible for staging Rollstock for the paper mill. They operate intermittently Fork-Lifts, Front End Loaders, Clamp Trucks, and/or Bobcat mobile equipment. The role requires getting on and off equipment regularly, understanding inventory procedures, basic computer skills, and clear communication with the team and supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Read orders and prepare reports legibly and accurately.
- Communicate orally with all personnel in the plant.
- Operate a calculator for basic mathematical computations and use basic typing skills for computer/scanning machine tasks.
- Climb onto various types of industrial equipment to operate steering controls, hand levers, and foot pedals.
- Maneuver equipment and raw materials in crowded areas with excellent depth perception.
- Frequently get on and off equipment and use hand tools, such as cutting pliers.
- Follow safety protocols, including lock-tag-try procedures, hazard observation, and adherence to plant safety rules.
- Complete documentation and operate small to medium-sized industrial mobile equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior industrial power truck or heavy equipment operating experience (preferred).
- Ability to read orders, perform basic mathematical computations, and complete documentation.
- Basic computer skills and ability to operate a handheld scanner.
Skills
- Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities for efficient operation.
- Understanding of product layouts, production specifications, and quality standards.
Physical Demands
- Light difficulty, fast-paced, and physically demanding work, often performed outside.
- Ability to operate steering wheels, hydraulic levers, foot pedals, and handheld scanners.
- Must observe immediate area for safe operation of mobile industrial equipment in crowded spaces.
- Occasional manual maneuvering of items and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent climbing onto and off equipment, with occasional ladder use.
