About the role
We're standing up a dedicated claims pod for an account and we need someone to lead it. You'll run a small team of General Liability adjusters, own the health of the account, and be the person the client and your team both lean on. This is a player-coach role, not a pure administrator. You'll still be close to the claims, reviewing tough files, weighing in on reserves and strategy, and jumping on the hardest exposures yourself. This while developing the adjusters around you and owning how the pod performs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a pod of 4 General Liability adjusters handling Premise, Habitational, Risk Transfer, Construction, and New York Labor Law claims.
- Own the performance and health of the dedicated account. That means quality, timeliness, outcomes, and the client relationship.
- Review reserves, coverage positions, and settlement strategy; approve or escalate within your authority.
- Handle escalations and the most complex, high-exposure litigated files directly.
- Run QA and file reviews; coach to the gaps you find and raise the bar across the team.
- Serve as the primary claims point of contact for the client including reporting, trends, and program-level recommendations.
- Direct outside counsel and investigative vendors on significant matters.
- Build and refine claims guidelines, best practices, and process improvements for the account, and help shape how our broader claims org operates.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development for the team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years' General Liability claims experience, including complex litigated third-party bodily injury and property damage.
- Prior team lead, supervisor, or formal mentorship/QA experience strongly preferred.
- Deep policy interpretation skills: Reservation of Rights letters, coverage declinations, and coverage analysis.
- Active adjuster license: resident-state license where available, otherwise a Designated Home State (DHS) license. Willing to obtain any additional required licenses within 60 days, including state testing.
- Proven judgment on reserves, authority, and settlement strategy on high-exposure claims.
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent industry experience. JD or professional insurance designations are a plus.
- Willingness to travel for client and claims needs.
