About the role

This Claims Specialist position is a hybrid role. Candidates within 50 miles of select offices are expected in-office 2 days per month. The role involves managing an assigned caseload of routine to moderately complex claims from investigation through resolution, using the latest technology. You will make decisions about liability and compensability, evaluate losses, and negotiate settlements while interacting with claimants, policyholders, appraisers, attorneys, and other third parties. Training is provided to enhance skills and deliver exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Manages an inventory of claims to evaluate compensability and liability.
  • Establishes action plans based on case facts, best practices, protocols, regulatory issues, and available resources.
  • Manages litigated claims involving bodily injury and property damage exposures within commercial lines, collaborating with insureds, claimants, attorneys, and other parties throughout the litigation and claims-handling process.
  • Plans and conducts investigations to confirm coverage and determine liability, compensability, and damages.
  • Assesses policy coverage for submitted claims, notifies the insured of any issues, and determines reserve requirements, adjusting as necessary during claim processing.
  • Refers claims to the subrogation group or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate.
  • Assesses actual damages associated with claims and conducts negotiations within assigned authority limits to settle claims.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in claims adjustment, general insurance, or formal claims training.
  • Required to obtain and maintain all applicable licenses.
  • Continuing education courses leading to industry certifications preferred (e.g., AEI, IIA, CPCU).
  • Knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical terminology, and legal aspects of claims.

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value for this position across the national market and provides opportunities to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual may include commission and/or bonus earnings based on factors outlined in the compensation plan.
