Claims Specialist, Design Professional

About the role
As a Claims Specialist – Design Professional, you will play a critical role in managing and resolving professional liability claims for architects and engineers. You will interact and collaborate with regional practice leaders, brokers, and insureds on assigned accounts, taking ownership of critical issues relating to claims management. Our professional liability claims handlers are tasked with proactively resolving and settling claims to achieve optimal outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Proactively manage Design Professional liability claims across multiple jurisdictions, including initial review, coverage evaluation, developing resolution strategies, and ensuring ongoing communication with stakeholders and claims management to achieve the best outcome for the insured and AXA XL.
- Use robust technical skills and subject matter expertise to handle complex and difficult claims within authority level, with focus on setting timely appropriate reserves.
- Partner with defense counsel in setting and pursuing effective and cost-efficient litigation strategies consistent with AXA XL litigation management best practices.
- Evaluate settlement value and negotiate claims and litigated matters within authority, as well as participate in mediations and settlement conferences.
- Consistently employ strategic litigation management skills throughout the life of all claims.
- Coordinate and manage communications with internal colleagues and key external stakeholders (e.g., clients, brokers, reinsurers, vendors, etc.) ensuring the highest level of customer service.
- Ensure all documentation is present in the claim file and that Claims Handler Guidelines and protocols are followed.
- Maintain high-quality relationships with insureds and brokers through frequent contact and responsiveness to their needs, including promptly reviewing contracts for insurability when requested.
- Actively participate in marketing and promotional activities with some component of public speaking.
You will report to the Manager of Design Professional Claims.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctor (JD) preferred.
- Intermediate level professional liability claims-handling experience.
- Experience managing, negotiating, and resolving complex claims.
- Insurance adjuster licenses for all states requiring licenses, or willingness to immediately obtain such licenses upon starting employment.

Capability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with insureds, brokers, claim handlers, underwriters, and legal counsel. Willingness to seek input from others as needed to achieve the best result possible for the insured and AXA XL.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and influencing skills. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the highest level of customer service.
- Ethics: Handle responsibilities with integrity and to the highest standards of professionalism.

Pay
The U.S. base salary range for this position is $88,500 to $154,900 USD. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
